FC-Baseball Fall Update

Fairview Clifton Baseball Parents,

2016 sign-up is almost upon us. For those who do not know, my name is Joel Allen and I am the new
Fairview-Clifton Baseball Coordinator. My son is in second grade at FC. I am looking forward to the
opportunity to continue developing a great program on the shoulders of the previous coordinators Carl
Geis and Mike Posey.

Registration will be through Blue Sombrero as is used by the Soccer Program. Many of you already
have familiarity and accounts with Blue Sombrero, hopefully reducing the associated challenges.
Watch for a flier and follow-up email announcement during the first week of December. 2015 was a
great year for FCB with over 100 players from T-Ball on up. We are on track to eclipse that number in
2016 allowing for increased flexibility in constituting our teams.

The FCB Coaches and I are excited about 2016. Here are some things to look forward to:

1. Reds Urban Youth Academy (RUYA). Through our association with the Reds Community Fund, we
have access to practice slots at the RUYA on Seymour Ave. in Roselawn. For the first time, we have
taken advantage of this opportunity to provide skills training open to all FCB players. Many of you
have been in attendance. There have been no fewer than 25 players per session with ages ranging from
4 through 12! These sessions are focused on basic skills development with a goal of leveling and skills
building. We will continue with the skills sessions, scheduled every other Sunday from 12:00-1:30pm
with the next occurring Dec. 6, until the season begins.

2. FCB Charter. In an attempt to formalize the structure of FC Baseball, a draft Charter has been
developed defining goals, administrative/volunteer structure, and transition lines. The attached draft
document will be finalized prior to the 2016 season. Please review and return any comments you might
have.

3. Open Participation. In the past, FCB has operated with an unstated policy permitting ball players
from outside FC to participate on FC teams. After discussion with FCB Coaches, Knothole, and the
Reds, we will formally open participation to our neighbors in Clifton who may not have another viable
baseball opportunity.

4. New Uniform Policy. Following the Soccer model, uniforms will be consistent from T-ball on up
from year to year. This will economize uniform expenses as they can be ordered as needed due to
growth. This should also enable handing uniforms down for reuse.

5. One of the most visible changes will be seen in our relationship with Knothole. Knothole of
Cincinnati will be reorganizing and realigning for next season. In the past, FCB has been placed in
District 1 which has had difficulty fielding teams and often struggled with providing umpires and kid-
safe playing environments. The realignment process will not be complete until after the new year but I
am working with the Knothole President to place FCB in a district with appropriate competition. I
think this will be a great thing for FCB as it should provide stability for our program knowing we are in
a district with consistent performance.

Best,
Joel Allen
Fairview-Clifton Baseball Coordinator
