President's Spring Newsletter

Hello FUSC Families,

My name is Chris Conley, I’m the new President of FUSC starting a 2 year term. I’d like to thank
our past president, Candace Donoghue, for her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to
the Club over the last two years and for her assistance getting me up to speed in the role. I’d
also like to thank those who serve with me on the Board of Directors and the Coaches, Assistant
Coaches, and Team Managers who volunteer their time and efforts as we all work together to
provide what we hope is a fantastic experience for the children.

Our Spring season is scheduled to start April 8th, hopefully field conditions will allow for that
but Coaches will be reaching out next month with more details.

Framingham United was founded in 1975 by a group dedicated individuals who volunteered
their time (a lot of it) to introduce Soccer to Framingham’s youth. Through the years, there was
always one constant, VOLUNTEERISM, that kept the Club going. I urge you all to consider how
you might be able to give back to FUSC by volunteering in some capacity. We’re looking for a
Fields Director and a Booster’s President but I’ll never turn someone away if they have an
interest in another area (e.g., Registrar, Equipment Director, Age Director, etc). Just a
reminder, those who volunteer for a Board position pay NO registration fees, your children play
for free! That policy applies to Age Directors as well. For those volunteering for a head coach
position, the registration fee is waived for your child on your roster.

Merchant Rd. Field Complex
We have several storage sheds at our Merchant Rd Field complex that were badly vandalized
over the winter necessitating immediate repairs. The sheds have been vandalized multiple
times so we’re looking into video surveillance options. If there are any members who have
experience in video surveillance, I’d love to hear from you.

We’re also dealing with antiquated well pumps and electrical conduit at Merchant that will
incur significant expense to repair/replace so there is a lot going on at Merchant as we prepare
for the Spring season.

We’re always looking for sponsors to advertise on the fence at Merchant Field, if you or
someone you know is interested in hanging a banner on the fence please contact me for more
information.

FUSC Tournament
FUSC had a long tradition of hosting a tournament on Memorial Day weekend, after a 4 year
hiatus we’ve decided to try hosting a tournament on Father’s Day weekend June 17th and 18th
with an opening ceremony and game June 16th under the lights at Bowditch Field. More
information will be announced later including the need for volunteers so stay tuned for that.

In-Town Program
The early registration discount for Spring ends 3/15, please be sure to take advantage of the
discount.

Pass It On
If you have any old uniforms (non-customized), cleats, shin pads, etc that are no longer being
used, please consider donating them to FUSC by e-mailing [email protected]. If you’re
in need of any equipment, we have a spreadsheet at www.FUSC.org (just click the “Pass It On”)
option for the link to the spreadsheet with available equipment and we’ll make arrangements
to get it to you free of charge.

Calling All High School Soccer Players
This Spring, we’re offering 11v11 soccer on Sunday afternoons for high school boys and girls. Please be
sure to register your child at FUSC.org if they’re interested.  The HS season starts April 23rd.

FUSC Scholarship
If you have a child graduating from High School this year who has had any involvement with
FUSC, have them complete a Scholarship application. We have multiple $750 scholarships that
we’re awarding to graduating seniors. The application is available at FUSC.org or e-mail me and
I can it send to you. Deadline to submit the application is April 23rd.

Sportsmanship and Zero Tolerance
This is a recurring theme and an important one that we stress multiple times every season. As
adults (coaches and spectators), we’re expected to set an example for how we want children to
behave and there are consequences for both adults and children when the expectation isn’t
met. Please be courteous and respectful to coaches, players, spectators and of course referees
as you’re representing Framingham United Soccer Club at any field both home and away.
Negative or critical commentary directed at a referee will not be tolerated. ZERO MEANS
ZERO!! This policy applies to in-town games as well.

Final Thoughts
We’re experiencing a referee shortage, if you think you might be interested in becoming a
referee (yes, they get paid) please visit www.massref.net for more information. My thanks
again to the many volunteers who make soccer a reality for the kids. It doesn’t just happen, we
just make it look like it does so please consider volunteering in any capacity.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Spring season!!
Play Fair, Play Safe, Have Fun!
Chris
