College Scholarships

The Framingham United Soccer Club and the Framingham United Boosters Club annually offers
scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have been players or referee members of FUSC and
who will be attending an accredited two or four year college after graduation. The scholarships are awarded in memory of four individuals:

Henry Politzer, who is remembered and esteemed by our club, was a founding member of FUSC. He
conducted exceptional soccer coaching clinics, wrote numerous articles in “Coaches Corner” of Soccer
New England, helped create the Pocket Skills and Drills Coaching Manual and participated in several
Boys’ Memorial Day Tournaments. Henry played professionally for six years in Vienna for the Austria
Football Club. FUSC honors his many years of dedication to the sport of soccer and to the children of
Framingham through these scholarships.

Lori Vengrow, who died in 1998, graduated from Framingham High School in 1991 and participated as a
player member of FUSC for many years.

Gillian Tara Shor, who died in 2000 at the age of thirteen, participated as a player member of FUSC even
after emergency brain surgery diminished her skill and ability, but not her spirit. The soccer field at Brophy
School is dedicated to Gil, and etched on the granite that marks the dedication is Gil’s motto: “Play hard,
play fair, have fun.

Jonathan Allan, who died in 1997, graduated from Framingham North High School in 1990 and
participated as a member of FUSC as both a player and referee for many years. This scholarship will be
awarded to graduating seniors who, in addition to meeting all of the regular criteria, have performed
notably as a referee.

Awards will be granted to students graduating from high school this year who have lived in Framingham
for six or more years. An applicant must have been an active participant in FUSC for at least six
sessions. The seasons need not have been consecutive. Applicants who are not currently playing
organized soccer or who have left the club to promote their own personal advancement of soccer are
eligible to apply. Applicants’ school records must indicate a probability of success in a chosen field of
higher education. Schools of choice must be accredited as either a two or four year program. The
scholarship committee seeks a well-rounded student to be a scholarship recipient. Dedicated
commitments to FUSC, school and community will weigh heavily in award selections. In addition to these
requirements, applicants for the referee scholarship must have participated as licensed referees in the
club for at least four seasons, which need not have been consecutive.
