Selection
FUSC works to appoint qualified coaches to each travel team. Each year all coaching positions are vacated and are filled in the Spring for the following Fall/Spring seasons. Travel Coach application forms are posted in the Spring. An interview with the FUSC Board of Directors is recommended for first-time travel coaches. All coaching appointments are made by FUSC Board of Directors taking into account the following factors:
- The level of coaching license attained,
- Prior coaching experience with the Club (and outside club)
- Historical service to the Club (including coaching)
- Participation at coaching development programs
- Personal playing experience
- Exemplary conduct and demonstrations of good sportsmanship
- Feedback from parents
- Does the coach have a child on the team
OTHER POINTS TO CONSIDER
• Coaches and Players evaluated independently.
• Coaches are ranked for each age group and appointed a team based on their ranking.
• Because most parents want to coach their child, the following options are available:
- If the child is selected for a lower team than their parent, the parent has the option of dropping down to coach the team where their child was placed.
- If the child is selected for a higher team than the parent, the parent has two options:
1. Coaching the team they were appointed and have their child play
down with them.
2. Step aside as coach.
• Appointments of assistant coaches are done by the head coach. The club can make suggestions in these situations, but ultimately it is the head coach’s decision.
